Small businesses in the community play a significant role in local economies by providing necessities for the communities they serve. However, during the past few years, the global pandemic has brought uncertainty causing many local businesses to struggle.

You can help keep your local businesses alive by following these simple tips.

Create a reach on social media

Today many local businesses have social media platforms, and these platforms have the potential of helping businesses reach current and new customers.

If there is a local shop you love you can help extend their reach by posting a picture of yourself there on either your Instagram or Facebook , just don’t forget to tag the business! This can lead to more followers, likes, shares and ultimately, more customers for the business.

Buy from your phone

The pandemic has caused a decline of individuals physically going into restaurants or shops. Don’t let this deter you from supporting your favorite local businesses! Many local restaurants and shops now have the option to order items from the convenience of your phone. The items are then delivered to your front door with no personal contact. Alternatively, you have the option to do a curb side pick-up. Both options can help keep you safe while also supporting a local business.

Refer to family and friends

If you like the service you get or the products you buy at a local spot, recommend it to your friends and family. When you personally recommend a business, it creates a positive impact for that business. Known as “word-of-mouth” marketing, which is tremendously important for small businesses. According to Invesp, word-of-mouth “results in five times more sales than a paid media impression and people are 90% more likely to trust and buy from a brand recommended by a friend.”
