Typically, summer is a time for family outings, vacations and relaxing on a bright sunny day. But for me and so many others, it was a time for graduation, back to school shopping, and getting back into a routine. This summer, my youngest started college. While trying to work through the emotions, I wondered what I was going to do with my extra time.
Getting back into a routine.
Getting back into a routine at this time of year is a reality for so many households and businesses. With long weekends and vacations, everything tends to slow down in the summer. I know that in my world of lending, we have those clients who are anxious to get their business moving. Unfortunately, the timeline for getting required documents, titles and appraisals moves slower in the summer. But all of that changes with the start of September. Vacations are over and school is back in session, it’s time to resume and get back to reality!
My daughter has been in college for a month now and my household has drastically come to a halt. After twenty-four years of raising children, I’m having a hard time coping with the silence in the house. There aren’t any school functions or ceremonies. There aren’t any banquets or after school assemblies. And the hardest one to get past is there isn’t any more late night advice to give to a child who is going through a tough time.
Now I’m figuring out what to do with my free time in the evenings to keep myself occupied. Do I start home projects, take up a hobby or maybe go back to school? Trying to find out who I am after forty-six years is definitely a challenge. One thing that I do know for certain is that I’m more focused on myself. I have more time to reach for my dreams and do what makes me happy!
