The development of a website and brand platform to raise awareness, engage the community, and encourage local support for the initiative
About The Woolf Pack Fund
Founded in 2021 by Maegan Woolf, the Woolf Pack Fund was inspired by the Food Bank for the Heartland’s Backpack Program. Recognizing a critical need, Maegan launched the program to deliver supplemental weekend meals to children in the Omaha area who face food insecurity, particularly those with limited parental supervision.
The Woolf Pack Fund focuses on serving Western Hills Elementary and Walnut Hill Elementary, providing consistent support from August through May. This initiative helps fill the nutritional gap when school meals are unavailable, ensuring students can return to class each Monday nourished and ready to learn.
“The Woolf Pack is honored to receive this award and support. We rely on private donations and grants to fund our program, and it wouldn’t be possible without organizations like Core Bank. The school staff and students are so appreciative of the extra support. we are thrilled that we’ll be able to provide food bags for the remainder of the school year and have a jump start going into the 25-26 school year,” shared Maegan Woolf.
Each Woolf Pack Fund food bag is thoughtfully packed by dedicated volunteers and includes: two shelf-stable milks, a fruit cup, a juice box, two cereals, and two kid-friendly entrees. Students who receive food bags are part of the free and reduced lunch program, highlighting the critical need for nutritional support outside of school hours. While school meals cover breakfast and lunch on weekdays, many of these children face a significant meal gap over the weekend. By providing supplemental food bags, the Woolf Pack Fund ensures students have access to the nourishment they need every day of the week.
The Link Between Hunger and a Child’s Future
Hunger doesn’t just mean an empty stomach—it has lasting consequences. Children experiencing food insecurity are at a higher risk of:
Falling behind academically
Struggling socially and emotionally
Developing chronic health conditions, such as obesity, diabetes, and heart disease
Engaging in risky or criminal behavior due to increased stress and instability
Addressing hunger is not just about feeding children – it is investing in their future. A food-secure community leads to healthier, happier kids. Therefore, kids are better equipped to succeed in school, thrive socially, and contribute to a stronger, more resilient Omaha.
