Core Bank establishes scholarship for local high school seniors

As a community bank, we are always looking for opportunities to leave a positive impact on the communities we serve. After months of working with several local public school foundations to establish our commitment, we’re happy to announce the Core Bank Cares Scholarship! Core Bank established this scholarship to make post-secondary education less financially burdensome for high school seniors. In search of more ways to make a direct impact on our community, our CEO, John Sorrell, envisioned a scholarship that aims to provide support to educate future bankers as well as recognize individuals who share the same commitment as Core Bank to better their communities. A strong demonstration of commitment to community involvement is at the heart of the scholarship. Additionally, students must complete the respective foundation’s scholarship application as well as meet the following criteria:

  • Enroll in a 2- or 4-year college or university
  • Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
  • Provide one letter of recommendation from a non-family member (teacher, coach, mentor, volunteer coordinator, etc.)
  • Complete a 500-word essay describing a volunteer activity the student has been involved in that demonstrates a passion and willingness to serve the community and help others.

For the 2021-2022 school year, Core Bank has pledged 7 scholarships worth $2,000 each, for a total of $14,000. Our scholarships will be awarded to the Omaha Public Schools, Elkhorn Public Schools, and Papillion LaVista Public Schools districts. As a symbol of our continued commitment to the communities we serve, these districts – where we live and give – were chosen. Scholarship applications will open spring of 2022. More information will be shared once available. We are excited for the opportunity to make an immediate impact on local high school seniors. Thanks to our employees’ hard work, which drives our success, Core Bank can give generously to our community!
