Core Bank employees, friends, and family braved the icy waters of Lake Zorinsky on Saturday, February 8th, for the heart-pounding, adrenaline-fueled Special Olympics Nebraska Polar Plunge! With 1,100 participants charging into the frigid depths, the Core Bank team froze their tails off with 51 fearless plungers, all decked out ready to graduate with their “degrees” and a shared mission to make a difference.
The challenge? Racing into freezing water and racing to the buoy mannequin before scrambling back to shore—soaked, frozen, but exhilarated! Despite the bone-chilling temperatures, excitement and energy were at an all-time high as the team rallied together to raise an incredible $27,440 for Special Olympics Nebraska. But the fundraising fun didn’t stop there! Leading up to the plunge, Core Bank employees spiced things up with a Chili Cook-off and spread some love with a Valentine’s Day Candygram fundraiser—all in support of this fantastic cause.
“This event is all about having fun while making an impact,” said Mike Rasmussen, Core Bank Executive Vice President and Polar Plunge Team Leader. “At Core Bank, it’s not just the plungers who support the cause—nearly every employee finds a way to get involved.”
This year’s Omaha plunge raised an incredible $329,662 plus cash and checks not shown on their website, surpassing the organizational goal of $200,000! That’s a tremendous leap from last year’s total of $231,000and it’s all thanks to the incredible efforts of teams like Core Bank.
But this isn’t just about one big event. The Polar Plunge fuels year-round programs for Nebraska’s 6,500 Special Olympics athletes—from sporting events to life-enriching activities. For over a decade, Core Bank has been making waves raising thousands for Special Olympics Nebraska. A massive THANK YOU to all the employees, friends, and donors who contributed to this unforgettable experience.
