Five and half years ago my family’s dear friends Tony and Shannon lost their son Alfy to stillbirth at 28 weeks. Their world was obviously shattered and turned upside down. Through her pain, Shannon found a cause that helps educate expecting parents on how to prevent the tragic loss her and Tony experienced. She is now the Nebraska Ambassador for Count the Kicks.

Count the Kicks provides free materials and a free app for expecting mothers to help track the movements of baby in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy with a mission to help prevent stillbirths. In June and July alone, three babies were saved in Nebraska and Iowa because their mothers used the app and noticed a decrease in the baby’s movements. As the Nebraska Ambassador, Shannon volunteers at Nebraska Baby Fairs and works with local doctors to provide free materials to expectant mothers.
Through the Core Bank Cares: We Give Where We Live program, I was able to make a $100 donation to Count the Kicks in memory of Alfy. Through this giving program, Core Bank employees are able to designate a stipend for charitable giving to organizations or community members in need.
Alfy will forever be in my family’s heart and I couldn’t think of a better cause to support – one dedicated to preventing this tragic loss and saving precious babies.
