Polar Plunge 2023: Supporting the Nebraska Special Olympics

Feb 14, 2023 | Community, Core Bank

On Saturday, February 11th, Core Bank employees, friends, and family gathered at Lake Zorinksy to partake in another year of the Special Olympics Nebraska’s Polar Plunge. The water was frigid, but the weather was a little “warmer” than in past years with the outside temperature being close to 40 degrees during the 11:00 am plunge. Everyone’s excitement and adrenaline kept people running toward the goal of reaching the buoy mannequin into the cold waters and back to land.

We had a record year for individual pledges and 72 people on the “Here Comes Trouble” team with the costume theme being Things 1, 2 and 3 Cat in the Hat. The Core Bank team raised a total of $29,500 for the Special Olympics Nebraska. Leading up to the Polar Plunge, staff held a Chili Cook-off as well as a Valentine’s Day Candygram fundraiser to support the Polar Plunge donations.

Special Olympics raised just under $165,000 from the online Omaha donations, which far surpassed their goal. Funds go not only to the sporting events but many more activities that Special Olympics provides to support Nebraska’s 6,000 athletes.

Community and fun are important to the Core Bank culture. The bank has been raising funds for the Nebraska Special Olympics team through this event for over a decade and has raised over $160,000 over the years. A HUGE thank you to all the employees, friends, and donors who helped benefit this wonderful organization! It was truly an amazing experience for a great cause. We’re proud of our team and the momentum we have going for giving back.
