By Ali Shoup, Vice President, Core Bank
I made a change in January 2018 to join the Core Bank team and was welcomed with open arms.
During our on-boarding process, I discovered a policy that I had never experienced in the 20 years of my banking career. Core Bank requires a 5-Day Lockout period, annually. I was familiar with the concept, but I’d never encountered the requirement, so imagine my surprise. I thought to myself, might have said it out loud, what are you talking about? What does this mean?
Fast forward to Fall 2018. We had a vacation planned that took us out of the country. Previously we looked for these types of vacations, because it was truly the only way to disconnect. If your cell phone didn’t have service, you couldn’t be reached. We also purposely looked for places that didn’t have great Wi-Fi connections.
We arrived at our destination and unexpectedly, we had cell coverage and great Wi-Fi. BUT…it was still the most relaxing vacation I’ve ever taken. I was truly unplugged from work and couldn’t log onto a system if I wanted to. During my career, I’ve never been fully released from the stress of my job. I came back to work refreshed, re-energized and ready to go. There was no fatigue from continuously checking emails, responding to questions (that could be answered without my assistance) or fighting fires. It was all handled by my capable team.
Take the time to unplug!
Take the time to disconnect! Take the time to let your team blossom, make confident decisions and feel empowered. I am thankful to Core Bank for this reprieve!
