The Core of Who I Am.

By Jason Moxness, Kansas City Market President, Core Bank
As many of you know, I recently made the career move to become the new Market President for Core Bank in Kansas City. The decision to make this change didn’t come quickly or easily (as big decisions shouldn’t) but I can tell you that it was absolutely the right one!

To answer the next question of Why? It’s Personal.

But one I want to share with you because it reflects on who I am at the Core.
I’m an Arranger, a Creator, a Grower of Teams and a Maximizer of Opportunities – When I am at my best I’m given the task or the challenge to start something or do something different than the rest or do something better than has been done before. With Core Bank’s expansion in Kansas City market, I have the opportunity to do all of these tasks at the same time. I have a blank slate and a market with lots of support and inspiration.
I’m from Nebraska but I call Kansas City home – I grew up in a small town in Nebraska, attended the University of Nebraska, married my high school sweetheart and moved to Kansas City 24 years ago this month! Needless to say, I have an affinity for all things Nebraska which makes the fact the Core Bank is headquartered in Omaha even that much better. Those are my people.
That said, Kansas City is one of the greatest cities in the country that I’m proud to call home. And it’s a place that I hope to never leave. I have the opportunity to tie my two favorite places together – Kansas City and Omaha!
In my 24 year banking career in Kansas City, I’ve had the privilege of working with some fantastic companies. I worked for two of the largest banks in the country as well as a few difference-making Community Banks. All of them were special and unique in some way. And all of them contributed to who I am as a banker today. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity that each one presented to me.

In the end I have to say that I am a Community Banker.

I love everything that a Community Banker stands for. To quote one of Kansas City area well-known bankers and one of my favorite mentors, Pam Berneking, “as a Community Banker you get to see how the whole sausage is made.” That pretty much sums it up – you take your job so personally that you lend money to clients like it’s your own money and you treat them like family because they are. I’m a Community Banker at Core Bank.

I’m an entrepreneur and small business owner.

Like they say, “it takes one to know one.” This is why I enjoy small business lending and why small businesses like to bank with me. I understand who they are and what they’re going through because I’m one of them.
I started a company in the heart of the recession because I wanted to help small businesses who were being squeezed out by large banks. I learned that SBA Lending was the lifeline of support for all of these small businesses that make our communities thrive. I learned that I could change lives by keeping small business in business.
Small business owners have grit, and grit is what moves objects that seem unmovable. This country needs more people with grit.
This is who I am at the Core.
