Core Bank Donation Drive Supports Summer Camp at Newhouse

May 23, 2024 | Community, Core Bank, Kansas City

Core Bank in Kansas City is strengthening their relationship with Newhouse in Kansas City, by hosting a donation drive from June 3-7 to support the children’s summer camp. Newhouse is Kansas City’s oldest domestic violence shelter, service brave children and adults with an 88-bed safe shelter, 24/7 Crisis hotline, therapy, legal support, childcare and education and more for residents and outreach clients.

“We’re located in a 3 1/2-mile radius where 80% of the violent crimes are prosecuted in Jackson County occur. Every day, our team is where our community needs us most. There is a lot to be proud of in Kansas City, but there are a few things that we need to work on. Missouri ranks in the top 10 deadliest states for women to be killed by their abusers. Kansas City has become one of the most violent cities in our country. The work that we do at Newhouse has elevated in terms of its importance of awareness,” said Courtney Thomas, Newhouse President and CEO.

Donations will be collected at Core Bank in Kansas City (7400 College Boulevard, Suite 205) or can be ordered from the Newhouse Amazon Wish List. The items needed for summer camp include individually packages snacks, board games and card games. All Children’s Programming activities at Newhouse are designed to eliminate barriers. Services are offered at no cost and take place on-site with transportation, equipment, and materials provided. Camp sessions are scheduled for the same hours as the regular school days, and support children’s learning while providing a break from the school routine.

When you donate items and funds to survivors at Newhouse, you are showing survivors and families that they matter, and KC is here for them. Every dollar and gift counts.

Newhouse was awarded with the Core Bank Community Impact Award in April 2024 with a gift of $4,000 to support their Children’s Programming including play therapy tools, off-site enrichment activities, updated classroom technology items, and funds to assist specifically with a seasonal camp. In 2022, Newhouse served over 120 children totaling over 12,000 hours of educational support and childcare.
