Core Bank employees, friends, and family were “chilled” as they gathered on Saturday, February 10th, at Lake Zorinsky to partake in another year of the Special Olympics Nebraska’s Polar Plunge. There were over 892 plungers with all teams combined and over 50 on the Core Bank team. The water was frigid, but everyone’s excitement and adrenaline kept people running toward the goal of reaching the buoy mannequin into the cold waters and back to land.

The Core Bank team involved over 50 people with Nebraska themed shirts raising a total of $26,045 for the Special Olympics Nebraska. Leading up to the Polar Plunge, staff held a Chili Cook-off as well as a Valentine’s Day Candygram fundraiser to support the Polar Plunge donations.

“I think all the plungers have a good time for a great cause. At Core Bank it’s not just the plungers who are supporting the Polar Plunge, but most employees, get involved in one way or another,” said Mike Rasmussen, Core Bank Executive Vice President and Polar Plunge Team Leader.

Over $242,000 was raised for the Omaha plunge which puts them over their overall state-wide goal of $290,000 with two weeks of fund raising to go. Last year all of Nebraska Special Olympics raised $224,451 online. This year was great for Special Olympics Nebraska and the athletes they work with!

Funds from the Polar Plunge go not only to the sporting events but many more activities that Special Olympics provides to support Nebraska’s 6,000 athletes. A HUGE thank you to all the employees, friends, and donors who helped benefit this wonderful organization! It was truly an amazing experience for a great cause. We’re proud of our team and the momentum we have going for giving back.
