Pedal to the Metal – Face in the Sun

“OK Gita, its 6:30 p.m. Pack it up and go home.” I look up from my computer screen to see our Market President, Jason Moxness, standing in my office doorway. “I will,” I respond smiling, knowing it will be another hour before I feel that I’m in a good enough spot to finish up for the day.

Pedal to the Metal. That’s just how I work.

Walk in the door, get to work, eat at my desk, keep working, with necessary quick trips down the hallway. I wear a lot of hats in my job, which is just the way I like it. Always a challenge, never a dull moment. I enjoy what I do and the people that I work with, both locally and in our head office in Omaha.
Creating processes, tweaking procedures, thinking outside the box, stretching, striving, reaching toward the goal of perfecting the “banking” experience at Core Bank. Simply put, just being helpful. Helpful to my teammates, helpful to our clients, helpful to our community and helpful to Core Bank as a whole. All that helpfulness requires full concentration and effort on my part. Pedal to the Medal.
But going full speed ahead all the time will eventually cause a drain on your batteries. You’ve got to take time to recharge. Before you ask, a weekend does not count. Weekends are spent with family and friends and getting ready for the upcoming work week (cleaning house, grocery shopping etc.)
Core Bank institutes a 5-day I.T. lockout for every employee. A gentle nudge to say, “Unplug, unwind, and recharge.” After 6 months of pedal to the metal, I took my 5-day lockout recently.
As I lay in a lounge chair, my face in the sun, and looking up through palm tree leaves at a beautiful blue sky, I came to the conclusion that I’m solar powered! The sun warming my face, the sound of the ocean in the background, a gentle breeze caressing my skin, I float into a sense of peace and well-being. I’m grateful for all the days past, for all the experiences I have had, the friends that make me laugh, the coworkers that I spend so much time with and last but not least, the family that I am blessed with. Life is good.
It was a great relaxing, fun vacation and now it is back to work. I am fully charged and ready to forge ahead. Pedal to the Metal. Have you scheduled your Face in the Sun time?
