Employee Spotlight: Nickie Dennis

By Nickie Dennis, Sr. SBA Loan Servicer, Core Bank
It was over 20 years ago when I started a job in banking. I started off as a back-office corrections clerk/ proof operator. There was nothing too exciting about the position other than I could wear headphones while I pecked on the keys of my proof machine. An opportunity in the loan department of that bank opened up, I applied and soon transitioned. I quickly traded in my headphones and “do-not-disturb” sign for a phone headset and a welcome mat.
September 11, 2001 – a day that we will never forget, changed America and also my career. There was now a greater need for Anti-Money Laundering personnel within the banking systems.
I gave up my welcome mat and put on my detective hat. My job was to detect and deter money laundering and terrorist financing. I was no longer the friendly face in the office, but now the person you didn’t want to sit down and talk to. After many years in that role, I wanted to try my hand at something different.
An opportunity within SBA Lending presented itself at Core Bank. I jumped and it has proven to be one of the most exciting career choices I’ve made. I work in a beautiful location with an awesome view of Overland Park Kansas. The people are very nice and I’ve run into some old friends (and made a few new ones) along the way.
Outside of Core Bank, I like spending time with my family and friends, mentoring youth at my church and taking amateur landscape and nature pictures. I absolutely love recording and watching Jeopardy with my family every night and watching football games.
